Qendra Spitalore Universitare "Nënë Tereza" Tiranë (QSUNT)

University Hospital Centre “Mother Teresa” in Tirana is a tertiary level Hospital and the only academic and Research Hospital Centre in Albania. Paediatric Intensive Care Unit treats postoperative patients (abdominal and cardiac surgery and sometimes neurosurgery patients) as well as medical severely ill patients with neurological, rheumatic, malignant pathology, and poly-traumatised patients.

Palliative Care and Chronic Pain management are part of QSUNT medical activities. Prevention and early diagnosis of malignant and chronic pathology as well as the improvement of home palliative care are the main future goals of this centre.

Main tasks in the project

QSUNT will participate as recruiting clinical centre in both GABA-1 (WP7) and GABA-2 (WP8) clinical trials. In addition to this, QSUNT will contribute to all the commonly shared activities of the GAPP project.

Involved staff

Ermira Kola Physician, General Practitioner (1985) in University of Tirana, General Paediatrician (1988) in University Hospital Centre of Tirana, Postgraduate Specializing Course in Anesthesia and Intensive Care in University Hospital Centre of Tirana (1988-1990) and PhD (1997) She is Associated Professor in 2005. Her research interest is focused on the management of shock states and palliative care.

Donieta Bali, Physician, General Practitioner (1995) in  University of Tirana, General Paediatrician (2001) in University Hospital Centre of Tirana, Postgraduation (master) in University Hospital Centre of Tirana, in Pediatric Onco-hematology Service (2003-2004) with the thesis” Clinical and  Epidemiological data about ITP in paediatrics ages in Albania  during period January ’95-December 2003 and PhD (2013). Her research interest is focused on paediatric palliative care.

Leonard Deda, Physician, Lecturer at Farmacology Session, Faculty of Medicine, University of Tirana. Head of Clinical Pharmacokinetics Unit since 1996. Member of National Committee of Bioethics since 1999. Member  of Drug Nomenclature Commission since 2009. Member of European Association of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (EACPT) since 2003. He has been clinical trial monitor from 2006 till 2009 for “BONCURE” (Bonviva For Current Bisphosphonate Users – Regional European Trial) ML 20430. Open, prospective, multi-center study.

Edlir Llazo, Person in Charge of Administrative, Legal and Financial Issues. Anaesthesiologist- Intensivist. Lecturer at Clinical Farmacology Session, Faculty of Medicine, University of Tirana. Member of Albanian Pain Association. He has a wide scientific activity in Intensive Care.

Alketa Qosja (Hoxha), Physician, General Practitioner (1992) in University of Tirana, General Paediatrician (1998) in University Hospital Centre of Tirana and Neonatologist (1999) at University Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology “Koco Gliozheni” in Tirana. Lecturer (2005) on the subject of pediatric at the Faculty of Technical Medical Sciences, University of Medicine of Tirana. Master of Sciences with the thesis: “The impact of early versus late umbilical cord clamping on term and preterm newborns” (2008) at University Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynecology “Koco Gliozheni” in Tirana and Phd with the thesis: “Oral Ibuprofen for Patent Ductus Arteriosus treatment on preterm newborns”(2015). Dr. Qosja research interest is focused on Neonatal Pain Management and Breastfeeding.
